SBR MAKE A GOOD RECOVERY IN HAMILTON

Stone Brothers Racing
April 18, 2010

SP Tools Racing’s Shane van Gisbergen made a good recovery in Race 2 of the Hamilton ITM 400 after yesterday’s nightmare DNF result. Van Gisbergen started the 59 lap race from 12th on the grid and managed to turn his qualifying position into a top ten result finishing 8th. Wilson Security Racing’s Tim Slade finished in 19th but went down a lap to the race leader on the final lap. A mistake on Lap 55 did not cost the #47 car track position but kept Slade from finishing on the lead lap.

It was Alex Davison’s turn for a DNF today due to contact with the tyre bundle. On Lap 11 Davison reported on team radio that he was in the wall after hitting the tyre bundle and breaking the suspension in the #4 IRWIN Racing Falcon.

Van Gisbergen’s top ten result has kept him in 6th position in the Championship standings but his campaign was helped with both James Courtney and Craig Lowndes experiencing difficulties in the race.

The Stone Brothers Racing Team will now head back to Australia to begin preparations for the upcoming QLD Raceway event at the team’s home test circuit.

Alex Davison – Driver, IRWIN Racing Car #4

“I made a mistake and hit the tyre bundle, which broke the front suspension. I hit the wall pretty hard and that was that.

“Obviously I’m sorry for the boys, the incident has caused a bit of damage to the car but we will be back at QLD and doing our best to achieve a good result at our home test track.”

Shane van Gisbergen – Driver, SP Tools Racing Car #9

“It’s been a tough weekend, I was pretty down after yesterday but it was good to turn things around today and finish inside the top ten.

“Qualifying was a drama all weekend, we certainly hope that’s the end of qualifying outside the top ten for the rest of the season.”

Tim Slade refused to comment
