Hundreds of thousands of motorcycle riders roared into Washington D.C. to honor veterans and those who died or were captured while in the military.

Bikers came from all across the United States rode Sunday from the Pentagon to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Many held flags and waved as they rode past cheering crowds that gathered all along the long route.

The annual event, now in its 25th year, is timed to coincide with Memorial Day, a national day of commemoration, for the nation's war dead and veterans.

U.S. government offices, schools and most financial institutions will be closed on Monday in observance of Memorial Day.
