New York Interests Ask Permit to Build a Toll Bridge.

REDWOOD CITY, Cal., Dec. 19.—Frank E. Webb, Vice President of the Bensel Engineering Company of New York, has filed an application with the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County for a permit to construct a concrete bridge across San Francisco Bay to connect San Mateo and Alameda Counties.

The contemplated bridge would be sixty feet in width and would cost approximately $6,500,000. If work is started in March, as the backers of the project hope, the span will be completed in 1924.

The bridge will be financed by New York and Philadelphia interests, Mr. Webb announced, and will return the cost through operation on a toll basis, subject to purchase by the State at the expiration of a term of years.
