Montevideo, July, 2013. CUTCSA President, Juan A. Salgado, and Mr. Attie, CTS Auto Director (Distributor for BYD Electric Vehicles in Uruguay), presented the new BYD Pure Electric Bus testing beginning ceremony on July 9th.

In presence of whole CUTCSA board of directors, management, drivers, technical staff and more than 10 media, Mr. Salgado announced the intention to test the unit in different CUTCSA routes in Montevideo to evaluate the performance of this bus.

During the event, CTS Auto staff explained to more than 100 people present about the BYD Pure Electric Bus specifications and its benefits.

With its cutting edge technology and its 2 electric motors is capable of a cruising speed of 88 km/h, with a range in city of over 250 km. The BYD battery technology allows a full charge in 5 hours (we apply the AC charger with Max. power output of 60KW, so it takes around 5 hours to fully charge BYD electric bus).

"Being 100% electric, there is no emission of gases into the environment," said Mr. Salgado to the local media. The rechargeable battery system developed by BYD engineers results in significant savings in energy consumption for both operators and the national state.

Mr. Salgado remarks “CUTCSA is highly committed to the environment, throughout the years has contributed continuously to improve the quality of life for all residents of Montevideo and the metropolitan area”. Since 2009, began to renovate the units, acquiring a EURO III standard and started using Biodiesel in some units.

The fleet runs every day more than 270,000 km. with a consumption of 85,000 liters of diesel per day. Implementing electric bus not only will reduce fuel costs but also CO2 emissions.

In a simple but symbolic act, Mr. Salgado and Mr. Attie, placed CUTCSA’s logo on the bus. After that they made a short tour through the streets of Montevideo, where Salgado drove the bus and those present at the event traveled.

At the end, children who attended a community program sponsored by CUTCSA had the experience to travel in the bus.\
