Mr. Vanderbilt's New Locomobile.
The New York Times

Special to The New York Times.

NEWPORT, R. I., June 1.—The largest locomobile ever seen here made its appearance on Bellevue Avenue to-day in charge of its owner, William K. Vanderbilt, Jr. It is of colossal size and is capable of seating six persons. Mr. Vanderbilt imported the machine from France, and with it came an instructor, who is teaching Mr. Vanderbilt the mysteries of its propulsion. The locomobile is said to have cost $8,000. During the afternoon Mr. Vanderbilt took Arthur T. Kemp out in the new vehicle, which kept up a speed of fifty-five miles for an hour's run. The locomobile runs noiselessly and is propelled by gasoline.
