Ryan Withdraws from Auto Race.
The New York Times

CINCINNATI, Ohio, Aug. 29.—John J. Ryan announced to-day that he had decided to withdraw from his automobile match race with "Barney" Oldfield, scheduled to take place Sept. 12 and 13. It was to have been for a side bet of $2,500. Ryan will forfeit $500 for failure to race. He declared he had made up his mind not to race again. His reason is the accident in which his automobile killed a deaf-mute.
