KILL AUTO MAN AT HIS SAFE.

The New York Times
November 25, 1922

Chicago Bandits Leave Behind Two Revolvers as They Flee.

Special to The New York Times.

CHICAGO, Nov. 24.—Joseph Lanus, owner of an automobile agency at 4,634 West Madison Street, was shot dead tonight by bandits, who entered his office unseen while he was counting his day's receipts at the safe.

He was shot twice in the back. When the police arrived they found two revolvers beside the body, apparently dropped by the killers in their haste to escape.

Apparently, there were no witnesses to the shooting, but the shots were heard by several persons.

The daily receipts of Lanus were considerable, due to the fact that many persons buying automobiles from him paid by the week or month.
