Volkswagen of America Inc., Europe’s biggest automakers sales arm, publicized today that it will be the official automotive sponsor of the second annual Download Festival. Said music festival has conquered Donington Park in England last June. This time it will conquer Boston and San Francisco.

Download Festival is a 3-day festival of punk, rock and metal music. It can be recalled that the first Download Festival was held on 2003 at Donington Park. Iron Maiden and Limp Bizkit were among the headliners then. Nonetheless, the latter was pulled out in favor of Audioslave. In 2004, said festival was held on Glasgow Green. It had a 9 band line-up performing for two days. In its second year, the headliners were Metallica and Linkin Park. Last year, said festival was held at Donington Park. Early this year, a 3-day Download Festival was again held at Donington Park.

Due to its overwhelming success, Download 2006 will have its second invasion, this time it will be in Boston and San Francisco. Download 2006 will hit the grounds of said territories on the 20th of this month and on the 30th of September respectively.

Volkswagen, as the event’s official automotive sponsor, is expected to have a major presence. The company’s vehicles like the all-new Eos, Jetta, GTI, and Rabbit will embrace the spotlight by serving as artist shuttle service. On said festival, there will also be a Volkswagen car parts display in a garage-style lounge to feature the company’s creation.

Volkswagen will also sponsor 2 club venue events. The first is named “Volkswagen Road to Download”, which features Kasabian. It will be held in Philadelphia on September 21. The second venue will be announced by Volkswagen in next to no time.

In the Download Festival to be held in Boston, Volkswagen will have a charity raffle which will benefit the Berklee College of Music’s City Music Program. Recipients for the San Francisco charity raffle will be announced soon.
