Jack Hawksworth and the #98 team finished 15th in yesterday’s GoPro Grand Prix in Sonoma after suffering car damage in a first lap incident. Multiple cars collided in turn two of the first lap of the race as they battled for position. Hawksworth, unable to avoid the cars ahead, suffered damage to the front of his car which affected the handling for the balance of the race.

Hawksworth battled through the damage and ran as high as 11th position in the field. Jack lost positions on the final pitstop as the team attempted to restore radio communications which had been lost just past half way through the 86 lap event.

Driver Jack Hawksworth commented, “Bit of an incident on the first lap and then had damage to deal with from then on. For the whole race we were struggling quite a bit speed wise, but we got through it. It was not the result we were looking for, but we got to the finish so I guess that’s something. Looking forward to the next race in Fontana.”

Team Owner, Bryan Herta stated, “We suffered damage in turn two right on the first lap, so the car was never where it needed to be, but Jack soldiered on. We also had radio problems and mechanical problems with the car from the first lap accident. We finished the race, but it was certainly was not a good representation of what we were capable of today. “

Indy Car returns next week for the final time this season at Fontana on Aug 29-30 for the last race of the 2014 Verizon Indy Car Series Season.
