BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (April 10, 2011) – Angolan driver Duarte Ferreira posted a cool, calm and collected performance in only his second start in the Firestone Indy Lights Series to bring home a seventh-place result this afternoon at Barber Motorsports Park. This is the second top-10 drive for Ferreira who finished eighth in his series debut on the streets of St. Petersburg two weeks ago.

Ferreira started at the back of the 15-car field but made up two positions at the first corner, then profited from various incidents in front of him to move the #28 LS Sports/Sonangol/BHA entry inside the top 10 on the first lap.

“Duarte did a really nice job today,” said team co-owner Bryan Herta. “He came back from an unfortunate spin in qualifying that placed him at the back. He drove hard and took advantage of other people’s mistakes and brought home a seventh-place finish. We are looking forward to going to Long Beach and building on the momentum from the last two races.”

The opening half of the 40-lap race was peppered with incidents and no fewer than three full-course cautions. Despite an error on one of the restarts, Ferreira moved into sixth place by Lap 22. He ultimately lost a position to Round One winner Josef Newgarden, but kept pace to finish an impressive seventh.

“It was a difficult race,” said Ferreira. “Like everyone, my car was sliding a lot due to the heat. The team gave me a good car and I am happy to gain more experience and also more points in the championship. I am really looking forward to Long Beach.”

Race Results:
1. Victor Garcia – Team Moore Racing
2. Stefan Wilson – Andretti Autosport
3. Peter Dempsey – O2 Racing Technology
7. Duarte Ferreira – Bryan Herta Autosport

Bryan Herta Autosport will return to racing action on April 17 in the Grand Prix of Long Beach.
