SALEM, Indiana (September 11, 2008) - In their last race of the 2008 ARCA RE/MAX Series (ARS) season, Owensboro, Kentucky native Brett Hudson returns to Salem Speedway looking for vengeance but a little magic too.
Considering that the brutal Salem Speedway has been one of Hudson ’s stoutest tracks on his very short ARCA resume, it’s no surprise that Hudson is being considered a sleeper for Saturday night’s Eddie Gilstrap Motors 200 by Advance Auto Parts.
In the spring, Hudson practiced 13th and qualified in the top-10. Looking for his second consecutive top-five finish, Hudson showed early how stout his Fannon & Rice Cable Construction Chevrolet was. Unfortunately, his adventure would be derailed as Hudson was collected in the “Big One” and forced to retire from the event.
Still disgusted about his recent trip to the legendary short track, Hudson returns to Salem looking for a duplicate of his fall 2007 performance. In last year’s fall classic, Hudson found himself in contention for his inaugural ARCA RE/MAX Series victory. after qualifying 10th; Hudson played it smart and with patience found himself in the hunt under the lights before eventually settling for a season best fifth. A year later, Hudson looks to finish what he started.
“I’m glad about going back to Salem , but man we need some luck,” said Hudson, the 2005 Salem pole winner. We had a good car in the spring but it was a case of a freak circumstance where we would up being at the right place, solidly in the top-10 at the wrong time and it put us out. We’re back though and ready to pick up where we left off last September.”
Hudson continued, “I would be super happy with another top-five finish, but I feel like this place owes me one. I’ve been close a couple times but have come up short. We’re bringing back the same car we had here in the spring and ironically it’s the same car from last fall, so we expect good things. The key to success on Saturday night is staying smart.”
While Hudson admits that his season hasn’t been as successful on the track he has enjoyed himself immensely. “I love coming out and playing in the ARCA RE/MAX Series. We’re continuing to look at the big picture to run a full schedule and maybe that will happen in the near future, but right now, we try to come out and do the best we can. We had a good top-10 finish at Kentucky earlier in the year, but other than, we’ve faced a lot of obstacles. That won’t stand in our way though, we’ll break through the barriers and look to end our season on a positive note Saturday night.”
Teaming up with Venturini Motorsports, the most recent winner in ARCA RE/MAX Series competition Hudson ’s Chevrolet Monte Carlo will carry the No. 25 emblem for the 18th race of the season. “Oh, there’s a little pressure,” Hudson admitted. “We’re glad to be teaming up with Venturini Motorsports for the race this weekend. Hopefully we can back up their performance from Chicagoland and make it two-for-two under the Salem lights.”
The BHM team will host Hudson Machine Shop, Fannon & Rice Cable Construction, G&A Trucking, Double H Hydraulics and Warrick Tubing as sponsors this weekend at Salem Speedway.
“The same group is back this weekend and I want nothing more but to go out in our own backyard, per say and put them up front. Salem is a fun racetrack for this team and all of our sponsors are looking forward to Saturday night. With a little luck, we’ll be around for the finish and see what we can deliver.”
As for 2009, “We’ll be back in some capacity,” Hudson sounded. “We’ll have some time to put our stuff back together, look at what we can do to improve our team and of course, continue that search for sponsorship. We won’t have to wait too long, next season will be here before we know it.”
Additional sponsorship opportunities are still available for this weekend’s activities. Interested parties are encouraged to contact Lisa Hudson of Brett Hudson Motorsports at 270.929.2160 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
