Christmas Lights on Car
Decorating Your Car for Christmas – 'What’s the worst that could happen?' asks BreakerLink: If you somehow hadn’t already realised it, Christmas is most definitely on its way. Festive chocolates are creeping onto the shop shelves, the money saving brochures are dropping through your letterbox and with a little luck your local council have unveiled some forgotten 1990s BBC celebrity to come and turn on your Christmas tree lights. Is anything immune from the wide bristles of the brush of seasonal cheer? In past years your vehicle could have been one place that stayed free from baubles and banners – but we’ve got a bunch of great car decoration ideas that could give it the Christmas touch you’ve always secretly wanted.

Let there be Light

Why should your Christmas tree be the only thing in your life adorned with fairy lights? People in the US have been adding LED lights to the bodywork of their cars for many years now, including one guy who added some 3,000 of these little electrical devices to his prestige vehicle. Whether or not this has added to the car’s value is anyone’s guess, but this man is not alone in his venture. From VW Beetles all the way through to huge haulage trucks, people have been illuminating the roads and motorways with their garish displays. Whilst some argue that such practices are dangerous UK law states that such lights are acceptable as long as they do not impede the car driver’s view nor dazzle any other road users.

Let Nothing Go to Waste

It may be the case that you have a glut of tinsel, baubles and garish Santa Claus styled decorations in your house. Well, don’t let these go to waste – and leave them sitting lonely in a box somewhere - use them to regale the interior of your vehicle with a little seasonal sprucing. You can wrap spare pieces of tinsel round the handles above your car doors, or hang tree chocolates for your passengers if you really want to push the sleigh out. You can equally put silver strands around your dashboard and replace those fuzzy dice hanging from your rear-view mirror with a small German wooden toy.

Tip your Hat

If you’re the type of person who loves to go the whole hog at Christmas, draining the power grid with the sheer amount of lights on your house, for instance, then you may want to invest in a massive Christmas hat for your car. That’s right - you can purchase giant red and white hats, akin to those supposedly worn by Santa’s elves for your vehicle. This should allow you to co-ordinate your family’s headwear with your car, and if you’re a real electrical whizz then you could even put a light in the hat’s bobble. You’ll be the talk of the town with such extravagant festive behaviour.

It’s Snow Joke

Everyone hates snow – except at Christmas. For some reason we get all nostalgic about a time that never was, as we start reciting Nat King Cole lyrics and forget how much hassle roasted chestnuts truly are during the all important yuletide week in December. However, the weather rarely obliges and usually fails to deliver the cold stuff when you want it most. In recent years the snow has come during the yearly hangover months of January and February. Never fear as you can always buy a can of fake snow and use it to decorate your car. You can even use newspaper cut-out silhouettes to create all kind of patterns on your body work, from seasonal messages through to pictures of polar bears.

Don’t Flake out on me

You’ve got to love a good window sticker – from the traditional baby on board to the 'my other car’s a Porsche' signs that have risen and fallen from favour with car owners - there’s always been something you can affix to your car to add that oh-so-personal touch. There’s now a host of different Christmas style stickers you can get to give your car that custom look over this party season. Just in case anyone in your local area is unsure of what time of year it is, why not remind them with a huge car banner either in your front or rear windscreen that boldly declares Merry Christmas or Yuletide Greetings.

Set the Atmosphere

If you’ve gone to all the trouble of getting the right festive look for your car, then don’t forget to top it off with a welcome bit of Christmas audio. Get your CD of seasonal tunes out and whack it on repeat play on your stereo. Be sure to wind down your windows as you drive around town, entertaining the masses with bursts of Slade’s Merry Christmas, or if you’ve got a Bentley you may want to go for Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite ensuring that everyone around you is the same high spirits as you.

With Unlimited Cash

As a final point let’s just imagine what your car could look like if money was no object – it would be possible to make some kind of bizarre car that could be completely themed around Santa’s sleigh. We’re thinking that you could have an open chassis that uses model foam reindeers to cover the front two wheels, whilst the driver and the passenger sit in a specially constructed rear section that’s designed to look like a sleigh. Obviously if you were going to go to such lengths to construct such a vehicle then you wouldn’t be able to get into it without stuffing a cushion up your jumper and putting on a red suit and a white beard. You could even fill up your car with presents and drive to the local schools in some of the less affluent areas of your town and give the children presents – as after all, Christmas is all about the giving, isn’t it?
