COOPERSVILLE, Michigan (August 11, 2011) - - The black cloud has finally dissipated for Johnny VanDoorn as the Coopersville, Michigan native pulled off his first win of the season last weekend at Dixie Motor Speedway.

Driving the No. 61 Port City Racecars / Baker Engineering / Magic Transportation, Outlaw late model, the two-time CRA Super Series champion led a whopping 79 of the 100 laps and easily cruised to the checkered flag in the Dixie Cup Series.

The triumph was a sense of relief for the Michigander as throughout his 2011 racing season, VanDoorn has showed immense strength but has been plagued by situations out of his control. With the win, VanDoorn says the magic may be back.

“It felt so good to get back to victory lane,” said VanDoorn. “We really had a good car and I cannot thank Port City Racecars, Baker Engineering and Magic Transportation for continuing to stand behind me. I knew it was just a matter of time before our bad luck streak would come to end. Hopefully the win puts a period what can only be classified as an uncharacteristic season.”

With momentum so key to success in racing, VanDoorn knows that staying focused and confident in himself which ultimately lead to more results like he did last weekend at Dixie Motor Speedway.

“When you’ve had the luck we’ve had this season, you start to have some doubt,” he explained. “Every driver goes through it. We unloaded strong, qualified well and everything pieced together nicely that allowed us to celebrate. I’m hoping it won’t be the last one of the season!”

Next up for VanDoorn will be at the Kalamazoo (Mich.) Speedway in the Premier Boyne Series where he will look to put his team back into victory circle at one of the most unique short tracks in the North on Wednesday, August 17.

From Kalamazoo, VanDoorn will shift his gears back towards the CRA Series where they’ll trek to Michigan at Dixie Motor Speedway in Birch Run, Michigan for the running of the Dixie 125 set for Friday, August 19.

In 69 CRA races, VanDoorn has posted six poles, eight wins, 25 top-fives and 47 top-10 finishes including back-to-back CRA championships in 2009 and 2010.
