DAYTONA BEACH, Florida (February 8, 2008) - - In the final practice session leading up to Saturday’s ARCA 200 at Daytona, Patrick Sheltra aboard his Sheltra Motorsports No. 60 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS wasted no time getting up to speed as the Indiantown, Florida native comfortably positioned himself in the top-10 before settling for 10th overall in the hour and five minute event.

Sheltra under the guidance of crew chief and former ARCA driver John Hayden posted a time of 49.407 seconds at 182.160 MPH. Earlier in the day, Sheltra qualified his Whitesville, Kentucky based Sheltra Motorsports machine 26th, awarding the 21-year old driver with his inaugural Daytona International Speedway debut.

The sophomore bound driver was just .392 tenths of a second behind session leader Dexter Bean.

“We’ll take that,” said Sheltra, who will make his 26th career ARCA start on Saturday afternoon. “I said earlier in the day that happy hour was going to be tricky and it was right off the bat. We decided to do a 10 lap run and we’re able to hook up with some very solid racecars. I think we have a competitive package for the race, but we’re going to need some help. That’s what restrictor plate racing is all about.”

He continued, “It’s going to be a race where patience is everything. We can’t afford to make have any mistakes in the biggest ARCA race of my career. We just need a lot of luck. The Sheltra Motorsports bunch has worked hard and I would like nothing more than reward them with a top-10 finish in the first race of the season.”

The ARCA 200 at Daytona (80 laps/200 miles) is the first of 21 events on the 2008 ARCA RE/MAX Series schedule. The 45th ARCA race held at Daytona is a three-day show. The event will take the green flag on Saturday, February 9 shortly after 4:00 p.m. The race will be televised live on SPEED with additional race coverage online at arcaracing.com. All times are local.
