Audi will reveal the new TT at Geneva. The first versions to be shown are the 306bhp TTS, the base model TT Coupe and the diesel TT TDI.

This new TT is a genuine 3rd generation car rather than a facelift. The body may look similar to the previous model but it's all new and built, like the Golf, from a multi-material chassis with lots of aluminium in the mix. Most of the bodywork is aluminium too which has given a 50kg weight saving over the mk2.

The engine in the TTS is a version of the tried and tested 2 litre TFSI unit but with Audi fuel injection and variable valve lift technology to give 306bhp and 280 lb ft of torque and a 0-60mph time of 4.7 seconds.

Gearboxes are 6-speed manual as standard or S Tronic automatic as an option. The TTS gets a flap in the exhaust for more and better noise if the driver so desires.

The TTS is four wheel drive via the latest Haldex technology whilst the standard coupe will be front wheel drive.

The interior looks much cleaner than the previous car. The dials are now entirely digital and the vents are new with a rather tasty design.

The 3rd gen is a sightly small car than the 2nd (20mm shorter and 8mm narrower) but the wheelbase has been increased by 37mm which means that the rear seats are still pretty small but very slightly larger than before.

The front seats, by the way, sit lower in the car and are 5kg lighter.

The new TT comes in a broader range of colours than before. Tango Red and Sepang Blue sound interesting.

The Audi TTS will be displayed on the Audi stand in Geneva from 6-16 March.

Prices will be announced soon and deliveries will start in late 2014.
