Event: ModSpace 125, Saturday, August 1 at 3:00 p.m. Local Time Track: Pocono (Pa.) Raceway Qualifying: Friday, August 31 at 6:00 p.m. Local Time Track Length: 2.5-mile triangle.
In her first full season of stock car competition, Canadian Sarah Cornett-Ching has quickly become a series contender in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards, making her a fan favorite for Saturday afternoon’s ModSpace 125. She is the only full-time female driver on the tour.
Last Time Out:
Cornett-Ching made her Lucas Oil Raceway debut in the Sioux Chief PowerPEX® 200. That particular track really challenged the young rookie, but Cornett-Ching and the crew persevered to post her 11th top-20 finish of 2015 with an 18th place run at the Clermont, Indiana-based track.
Did You Know?
Before focusing on her stock car career in the United States, Cornett-Ching enjoyed a blockbuster career in her native country of Canada. In addition to being a two-time champion in various racing series in 2005 and 2007, Cornett-Ching enjoyed a successful career in the Canada West Coast Sportsman Series.
Avid Charity Supporters:
Sarah Cornett-Ching and RACE 101 are avid supporters of the charity Pit Stops For Hope (PS4H). Pit Stops for Hope (PS4H) began as a collaboration of Richard Childress Racing pit crews teaming up with Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina and the Salvation Army of Winston-Salem, NC.
The goal is to defeat childhood hunger in the state of North Carolina. 100% of the donations PS4H receives from various means goes directly to Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina and the Salvation Army. They believe that in a land as abundant as America, there should not be one child that is food-insecure. PS4H is doing their part to end childhood hunger issues and encourages other racers, teams, fans and media to help them. Find out how by visiting PitStopsForHope.org.
From Her View:
For Saturday’s ModSpace 125, Cornett-Ching will carry an on-board camera for the first time this season. The on-board camera will allow viewers to see an exclusive view from the No. 2 RACE 101 Chevrolet.
Announcement Next Week:
RACE 101, the team that fields entries for Sarah Cornett-Ching in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards will make an announcement next week about another NASCAR K&N Pro Series East (NKPSE) event added to her already busy season. Cornett-Ching has two K&N starts to her credit this year at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway and Columbus Motor Speedway, respectively.
While Cornett-Ching and her Tony Blanchard led team are chasing a record to become the highest finishing female in ARCA championship points, she’s also chasing a Rookie of the Year title where she currently stands second overall. In the championship effort, Cornett-Ching sits sixth overall, which would tie Shawna Robinson as the highest finishing position in history for a full-time female competitor.
Nice To See You Again:
For the first time this season on the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards tour, Sarah Cornett-Ching returns to a track where she has prior experience. Cornett-Ching will make her second start at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway and look to improve on the 20th place finish in June, where an engine issue sidelined their effort in sight of the checkered flag.
Where Is She?:
After 13 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards races, Sarah Cornett-Ching sits sixth in the championship standings with a 75-point cushion over seventh place. Thus far, Cornett-Ching maintains an average starting position of 14.7 and an average finish of 14th entering the 14th race of the season. Cornett-Ching is second in the SCOTT Rookie of the Year race with the lead still in grasp with seven races to go.
Not Just A Racer:
Before turning her concentration to a full-time driving career, the Summerland, British Columbia native was a certified welder by trade in her home country of Canada. In fact, Cornett-Ching hones her skill at the team's Denver, North Carolina, shop on occasion.
Cornett-Ching graduated from Okanagan College in Canada in 2014 as a certified Red Seal B Pressure Welder. Her skills have allowed her to serve as a welding tutor for members of her RACE 101 team.

Tony Blanchard has elected to bring RACE 101 chassis number 323 to the 2.5-mile track this weekend. This Chevrolet is appearing in its third race with RACE 101. This car last competed in the ARCA Racing Series event at Iowa Speedway in July. This particular race car has one top-15 finish in two races. The team will utilize chassis number 352 as a backup car, the same automobile that Cornett-Ching raced with at Michigan International Speedway and Chicagoland Speedway last month.
RACE 101 Motorsports, Pocono (Pa.) Raceway, Pre-Race Quotes: Sarah Cornett-Ching, driver of the No. 2 RACE 101 Chevrolet:
On Lucas Oil Raceway:
“Lucas Oil Raceway didn’t turn out the way we had hoped. We struggled to get the car to my liking from the moment we unloaded. As much as we kept tweaking on the car, Lucas Oil was the first track this year I wasn’t able to pick up on right away.
"The team worked really hard all day and in the end we saw the checkered flag. Finishing 18th after battling all day makes the top-10s we have amassed this year that much more special, this is a competitive series and we need to be on our game at every race.”
On Returning To Pocono (Pa.) Raceway:
“I’m excited to return to a track that I’ve been to for the first time in 2015. I wasn’t sure what to expect when we went there in June, but overall it’s a track I really liked. The more laps I turned, the faster my lap times were. We didn’t get the finish we wanted due to a motor problem, but this weekend is a chance to redeem ourselves and that’s exactly what we plan to do.”
On Shorter Distance At Pocono (Pa.) Raceway:
“This race is considerably shorter than the race in June. That means we can’t afford to hold back, and strategy will be important. We have to go once that green flag drops. Fifty laps, believe it or not, will go by in a hurry. I trust Tony's calls will get us track position and an opportunity at a strong finish.”
On Goals For ModSpace 125 At Pocono (Pa.) Raceway:
“After a few challenging outings for us at Iowa Speedway and Lucas Oil Raceway, we need to get back inside the top-10 this weekend at Pocono. I’d like to say we’d be absolutely smitten with a top-five finish, but we’ll settle with a top-10. Pocono is a tough track and we need to beat the triangle. I’m ready to get going.”
RACE 101 Motorsports, Pocono (Pa.) Raceway Pre-Race Quotes: Tony Blanchard, driver coach, mentor and owner of the No. 2 RACE 101 Chevrolet:
On Sarah Cornett Ching’s Lucas Oil Raceway Outing:
“I know Sarah is still beating herself up over her performance at Lucas Oil Raceway, but there’s going to be races where things just don’t turn out as planned. That’s OK. This RACE 101 team stands behind Sarah and we believe in her and we’ll chalk up last weekend’s finish at Lucas Oil as a team and march ahead to Pocono (Pa.) Raceway this weekend where we know we can turn things around.”
On Outlook For Pocono (Pa.) Raceway:
“Having a game plan before the green flag drops will be crucial for Saturday’s race. This race is only fifty laps, so every position on track is key and the pit stop you make could be the winning move. Sarah did a great job in June at Pocono, circumstances beyond her control prevented her from seeing the checkered flag."
