Former Vice President of Cadillac Joins Peerless Company

George H. Layng has resigned as vice president and manager of Manufacturing of the Cadillac Motor Car company to accept the same offices and responsibilities with the Peerless Motor Car company.

He thus resumes his close association with R. H. Collins, formerly president and general manager of the Cadillac Motor Car company and now head of the Peerless company.

Mr. Layng's service with Cadillac extended over a period of nearly sixteen years. He went there in 1905 as foreman of the chassis department, making single-cylinder cars.

Actuated by his working motto, "Start early and work hard and keep it all the time," he was shortly promoted to the job of assistant superintendent and, later, of superintendent, of the engine shop for the Model G. Cadillac.

Through his willingness and ability to take on extra work and the additional responsibilities it entailed, Mr. Layng, in turn, superintendent of machine shops, assistant to the general manager, manager of manufacturing, vice president and director.

Born of a family steeped for generations in the fine traditions of New England craftsmanship, before entering the automobile industry he had spent twenty years as mechanic and tool maker in "down east" shops whose products have long been snyonymous with the last word in mechanical precision and accuracy.

His practical experience qualifies him to make anything from a micrometer to a locomotive. Through all his career he has insisted upon the highest grade of workmanship, and has secured it by close personal supervision and instruction of his men.
