Sig Haugdahl, Veteran Race Driver, Cracks Up in Afternoon's Best.

New York, Jan. 14—(UP)—Wild Bill Holmes of Brewster, N. Y., won top honors here yesterday in the midget auto races, which furnished one big smash-up.

Holmes won the Australian pursuit race and the feature 20-lap event and set a new track record for eight laps.

Sig Haugdahl, Daytona Beach, Fla., veteran of dirt tracks, and until last night, winner of all events entered as a midget auto driver, was put out of the running when he spun on a turn and was smashed against the fence by George Villa. Haugdahl escaped injury.
