Hultgren Offers Pro-Commuter Amendment To Infrastructure Package

Congressman Randy Hultgren
February 15, 2012

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Randy Hultgren (IL-14) today released the following statement regarding his proposed amendment to the infrastructure investment legislation under consideration by the House of Representatives.

“Last month, mass-transit commuters in my district and across the country were hurt when parity between mass-transit and parking benefits was allowed to lapse,” said Hultgren, a member of the Transportation & Infrastructure Committee. “Faced with sharply increased Metra fares, it is imperative that Congress act to ensure that mass-transit commuters are not discriminated against. My commonsense amendment reinstates the parity between mass transit and parking, and helps commuters get to work in the way that’s best for them.”

“I strongly support the Hultgren Amendment,” said U.S. Rep. Mike Quigley (IL-05). “Commuter benefits shouldn’t be taxed at different levels. This inequity forces commuters off of trains and buses and into cars, leading to increased congestion for those who drive, lost time, and lost money.”
