NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. (February 11, 2016) – With his NASCAR K&N Pro Series (NKNPSE) East debut just days away from New Smyrna (Fla.) Speedway with Young’s Motorsports, driver Reid Wilson is intensifying his long-time relationship with the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).

Wilson and his Young’s Motorsports team will promote MDA’s Summer Camp program in an effort to bring awareness to its cause and contributions.

Since age 11, Wilson has been a member of the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s Muscle Team, a group of professional athletes who work with the MDA to raise awareness and funds for MDA research and summer camp for its attendees.

Part of his commitments include volunteering as a camp counselor during the summer, visiting other summer camps near tracks where he races, while also partaking in various MDA events such as an event his family created the “MDA Night at the Races” during the annual Summer Shootout at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway.

“Reid's focus and drive to help raise money to support MDA is amazing, but that is only a small part of what he does for the local MDA families,” said the Sentivan family who have two children with Muscular Dystrophy. “Reid gives so much of his time to spend with the kids. They all love having him at MDA summer camp, Muscle Walk and Muscle Team events. We love to cheer for Reid during racing season and wish him all the best this year!”

Eight years later, messages from the Sentivan’s family means Wilson’s mission for the campaign is stronger than ever and looks to bring further attentiveness to his efforts in Sunday’s Jet Tools 150 at New Smyrna (Fla.) Speedway.

“It’s my honor to continue to be part of the Muscular Dystrophy Association, especially its Summer Camp program,” said Wilson. “As my career continues to evolve, it’s a great opportunity to bring more attention to the wonderful programs and opportunities that the MDA does while trying to encourage others to join me in my mission.”

The nearly 75 week long summer camps – offered at no charge to the families thanks to supporters who fund the camps – give attendees with limited muscle strength and mobility a life-changing experience in an environment without barriers.

“It’s been a real pleasure to participate in, and create events to raise awareness and funds for the MDA,” sounded Wilson, a native of Huntersville, North Carolina. “And these kids have been a great inspiration for me, having practically grown up with many of them.”

MDA Summer Camp’s motto is “where anything is possible” for the kids. Wilson, himself can apply that slogan to his endeavors on the race track.

“This year, the MDA has a goal to send 20,000 kids to summer camp,” added Wilson. “We need help in spreading the word and getting donations so they don’t have to worry about that expense. And while we’re racing with Young’s Motorsports this weekend at New Smyrna, anything is possible for us too in making a real difference on the track in our No. 66 Chevrolet.”
