France's Bianchi Seriously Injured in Japan F1 Race

VOA News
5 October 2014 (2:56PM)

A French Formula One driver is fighting for his life after crashing on a rain-slicked racetrack in Japan.

Jules Bianchi lost control of his car on the wet track in Suzuka, Japan, after rain delayed the race start, hitting a tractor that was removing a disable vehicle.

Formula One's governing International Motoring Federation (FIA) said Bianchi was rushed to the hospital for immediate surgery after suffering a "severe head injury."

The crash overshadowed a victory by Lewis Hamilton, who won the Japanese Grand Prix when race officials cut the race short after Bianchi's crash.
