Japanese automaker Subaru has been known in the auto industry as the producer of vehicles with smooth all-wheel drive configurations. The automaker’s affinity for boxer engines is also well known in the automotive circle. As a Japanese automaker, it has also grown a reputation for manufacturing reliable cars and one of which is the Impreza. Among performance enthusiasts, the Impreza’s turbocharged version is very popular.

The Subaru Impreza WRX is the variant of the Impreza with a turbocharged engine. On August 11 this year, the automaker is offering performance enthusiasts the chance to test drive the new model of the high performance car. The Consumer Ride and Drive event will be held at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California.

The event is expected to be attended by many Subaru fans and performance enthusiasts. According to the Japanese automaker, the attendees of the event will not only have the chance to test drive the new Impreza WRX but will also be treated to other fun activities. Those who will come to attend the event have a choice of either driving the WRX on their own or co-pilot the performance car.

The event will feature two driving courses according to the automaker. The first one is designed for those who will choose to test drive the WRX. The said course is designed to highlight the capabilities of the new Impreza WRX. Acceleration, handling, and braking capabilities of the new WRX will be shown to consumers on their test drives. Although this driving course and the event as a whole will not give consumers enough information as to the reliability and efficiency of its auto parts such as Subaru master cylinders, it will give them an idea of what the new WRX brings to the table.

The second driving course will push the new WRX to its limits. Attendees will be given the chance to co-pilot the car on this course. A professional rally driver will be taking the wheel and will be tasked to show the consumer the true potential of the new WRX.

Aside from test drives, the even features will also feature a tuner car salon which will be hosted by the North American Subaru Impreza Owner’s Club. A video gaming lounge will also be part of the festivities. For attendees waiting for their turn to drive the new WRX, the gaming lounge is a good place to hang out in. The 2008 Subaru model lineup will also be gracing the event.

According to the automaker, the 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX is equipped with a 2.5-liter boxer engine with an output of 224 horsepower. With that power output, the new WRX can reach speeds of 60 miles per hour from a standstill in just 5.9 seconds. The all-wheel drive system is also a part of the new WRX. This gives the new turbocharged Impreza with the stability and handling that it is known for.

The new offering will boost Subaru's presence in the compact performance segment. The Japanese automaker has always been a force to reckon with in the said segment with the WRX. And with the new and improved Impreza WRX, the Japanese automaker proves that it is on top of its game and knows how to tease consumers into visiting their showrooms.
