Mazda 6 To Debut At Frankfurt Show

Anthony Fontanelle
August 10, 2007

Are you a Mazda 6 enthusiast? If you are, make sure to zoom-zoom your way to Germany this September because Mazda will be pulling the wraps off the upgraded midsize car at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

The Mazda Motor Corp. earlier confirmed that the first world-class appearance of its upgraded midsize car will be made at the 62nd Frankfurt Show next month. The Japanese automaker said that the Mazda 6 had evolved the original model’s design and functionality and also offered enhanced safety and environmental performance.

Along with the announcement of the car’s official debut is the release of a teaser shot. Apparently, there are cues from the Mazda 3 and the RX-8. But the car has still a lot to offer.

The worldwide premiere of the Mazda 6 is set on the 11th of September. A press conference will start at 13:45 local time. The Frankfurt Show press days are September 11 and 12. Public days, meanwhile, will start on September 15th and will end on the 23rd.

According to AutoWeek, the all-new Mazda6 arrives as a full redesign of Mazda’s first model to embody the Zoom-Zoom product philosophy thus offering a thrilling drive to all those who still remember the love of motion first experienced as a child. Following the all-new Mazda2, the all-new Mazda6 is the second Mazda new generation product to evolve to the next stage, further deepening the emotional connection between man and machine - Mazda calls it “Kizuna.”

The upgraded midsize car inherits the automaker’s trademark – the noteworthy performance and responsive handling. The trademark, which is famed around the globe, also is apparent in Mazda 3 performance parts and other product lines from the Japanese automaker.

Additionally, Mazda has entertained evolution of its distinguishing design and extraordinary functionality. The all-new Mazda 6 takes a step forward in durability, quality, and safety. The automaker also has improved the environment-friendly feature of the car. As such, the final result is an exciting and wonderful experience that only the all-new Mazda 6 can offer.

The Mazda 6 is based on the Ford Mondeo, so it will be bigger in every direction than the outgoing model, but to distinguish it from the Ford marque, the automaker has given the car a nose that echoes the RX-8's.

The engine lineup is likely to include diesels jointly developed by Ford and Peugeot-Citroen. Four-wheel drive could be an option, and there is likely to be a hot MPS version, reported Channel 4. On the other hand, the Mondeo is also expected to form the basis of the next-generation Volvo S40/V50/S60. And if it happens, the report added, it will be the Jaguar X-Type.

Sales are expected to begin later this year, with the full lineup of hatchback, saloon and estate on sale by the end of next year.

The Japanese automaker also plans to make alterations to the new car. These changes will be incorporated in the 2009 Mazda 6. The car is expected to appear bigger and exude improved performance. Engine choices may include a new 2.5 liter four-cylinder, a 3.5 or 3.7 liter V6 from the CX-9.
