NJDOT Ongoing Safety Review Leads to Swift NJ TRANSIT Action

Customers Directed to Utilize Rt. 3/Clifton Commons or Rt. 3/Passaic Avenue Bus Stop on Tuesday

NEWARK, NJ — Reaffirming its commitment to the safety and security of its customers, NJ TRANSIT is taking immediate action to protect bus customers who board bus routes 191, 192 and 195 at the eastbound Route 3/Main Avenue stop in Clifton.

Due to New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) and NJ TRANSIT’s on-going commitment to safety, NJ TRANSIT will cease all bus drop off and pickup at this location effective the morning of Tuesday, February 21.  This bus stop serves approximately 89 customers on a daily basis.

To accommodate customers, service will shift Tuesday morning to two existing and proximate stops:  Route 3 and Passaic Avenue, as well as the stop located in front of the Clifton Commons Mall.

Customer service representatives will distribute informational bulletins to customers utilizing the 191, 192 and 195 routes, starting this evening at the Port Authority Bus Terminal.  Further, NJ TRANSIT customer service representatives will also be in place Tuesday morning at the to-be-closed Route 3/Main Avenue stop to direct customers to the two alternate locations.

“NJ TRANSIT is committed to the safety and security of our customers,” said Executive Director James Weinstein.  “While we recognize that this rapid step will undoubtedly result in temporary inconvenience for those who board at this particular stop, please know that we are committed to providing a safe and secure environment for our customers and the communities we serve.”
