Maximize your Car's Pulling Power with a Premium Quality Car Winch

While winches are a car accessory that car owners could most easily do without, having one is surely a good investment. What are winches? What purpose do these auto parts serve for car owners?

A winch is a mechanical device that is used to wind up rope or copper-wired cables. The basic construction of a winch is comprised of a spool in which the rope will be wound, the rope or cable and a winding device (either with a handle for manually operated winches or a remote control for more technologically advanced remote-controlled winches). Winches are attached to the car and used to pull other vehicles or sailboats. When a vehicle needs towing, a winch will also come in handy because the tow truck service will no longer have a hard time pulling the vehicle. There are six types of winches--- the electrical winch, mechanical winch, hydraulic drum winch, motorized, portable, mechanical drum winch, and the hand-operated, mechanical wire rope winch. The electrical winch has a double battery for its power source and it utilizes both the car’s battery and the built-in battery in the winch. A mechanical winch has a stronger pull than an electrical winch and also utilizes the car’s battery. Mechanical winches come in drum and capstan types.

The hydraulic drum winch gets its “pulling” power from a hydraulic pump also located inside the car’s engine. The motorized, portable, mechanical drum is a rarity. It doesn’t use the car’s engine but harnesses a mechanized motor attached to the winch body. The hand operated, mechanical wire rope winch does not use up any of a car’s battery power but it has to be manually wound and spun. The hand operated, mechanical wire rope, however, requires a great deal of physical strength from whoever operates it.

A car winch, as mentioned earlier, can have many benefits for the car owner. There are a variety of winches with different amounts of pulling power, battery leads, rope lengths and rope types. Aside form brick and mortars auto parts stores, online dealers offer lots of winch types and brands to choose from. Shopping for high-quality car parts need not be hard. For a hassle-free shopping experience, auto parts sites are just clicks away.
