GLIDDEN ROUTE YET UNNAMED

Publication: The New York Times
Date: 31 January 1909

Chairman Hower, Silent on This Point, Predicts Many Entries.

The route of the Glidden tour, which starts next July, is still undetermined, or if not undetermined, at least unannounced. Rumor had it some months ago that the annual event would be run from Chicago to Denver this year, but Frank B. Hower, Chairman of the Contest Board of the American Automobile Association has declared that this statement is in error, although at the same time declining to give any definite information as to where the contest will be held.

The event is the sixth of its kind. In 1904 the tour went from New York to St. Louis; in 1905 the White Mountains received a visit from the contestants; the route ran from Buffalo to Bretton Woods in 1906; in 1907 it went from Cleveland to this city, and last year the tourists started from Buffalo, making a run to Saratoga.

Mr. Hower states that a number of entries have been received, and he predicts a bigger number of contestants than ever before have taken part in the tour. It is estimated that more than 100 cars will be in line.
