“Indiantown, Florida Native Gearing Up For “True” Hometown Race”

JUPITER, Florida (February 2, 2010) - - Before Patrick Sheltra heads to Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway this week to participate in the Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200, the Indiantown, Florida native stopped by Palm Beach (Fla.) International Raceway Monday to participate in the track’s “Media Day.”

The 23-year old rising star will participate in an open ARCA Racing Series (ARS) test at the 11-turn, 2.034-mile design and FIA Grade II certified road course next Monday, two days following the “Super Bowl” event for ARCA at Daytona.

Sheltra spoke with local media, county officials, city officials, National Football League (NFL) stars and fans who attended the event despite the adverse weather conditions. He also climbed into the passenger seat of a Chevrolet Corvette where he toured the speedway at close to full speed.

The veteran ARCA driver was also the center of attention with Fox Sports Network (FSN) on Monday talking about Media Day, the track and ARCA’s inaugural visit.

“The ARCA Racing Series has found a nice home at Palm Beach International Raceway,” said Sheltra, who will embrace his fourth full-season of competition in 2010. “The track layout is very sophisticated mixed in with a few surprises too. The speeds are going to be a little faster than our other road course at New Jersey Motorsports Park, but having a second road course on the schedule is a great sign for the series.”

He continued, “It was wet on Monday, but I really had the opportunity to see what the track would be like should we be forced to race in the rain. We could even test in the rain next Monday, so to be able to see how the track reacts to the wet was very beneficial.”

Former Dallas Cowboys and two-time Super Bowl champion Godfrey Myles spoke with Sheltra about attending the ARCA Racing Series 150 on February 27 after taking a ride around the Jupiter, Florida based facility.

“Godfrey was a pretty cool dude,” Sheltra sounded. “He brought his wife and his little boy and they were able to take a ride around the track too. His little boy lit up like a kid in a candy store. You couldn't help but smile and laugh. I hope Godfrey is able to come back for the race.”

Sheltra will have a two-week break following his bid at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway before the series takes shape for its second event of the season at his hometown-track Palm Beach (Fla.) International Raceway. Practice and qualifying is set for Friday, February 26 with the 150-mile event set for green flag conditions on the following day shortly after 1:00 p.m. local.
