John Wes Townley, driver of the No. 09 Zaxby’s-SPS Ford took home an impressive 11th place finish at Daytona International Speedway in his first ARCA RE/MAX Series start Saturday, February 9th, 2008.

“It is really exciting to finish 11th at Daytona International Speedway,” driver John Wes Townley said. “I am really proud of this RAB Racing crew. They worked so hard to give me a top notch car and it truly showed here this weekend. This finish is a great start for this 2008 ARCA RE/MAX Series season.”

Although Townley finished 11th, it didn’t come without a few obstacles to overcome. On lap 30 Townley fell victim to the ever present “Big One” when two of the leaders got into one another, collecting more than ten cars.

“I was coming through turn three in the center of the corner when I saw a bunch of smoke and cars spinning sideways,” Townley stated. “I rolled out of the throttle to keep from spinning, but when the car next to me began to spin, there was nothing I could do but hold on. I am just glad we didn’t hit the wall.”

The damage to the No. 09 Ford Fusion was minimal and after a few stops on pit road to fix the right front fender and suspension, the RAB Racing team was able to get Townley back out on the track and remain on the lead lap for the remainder for the race.

“I am very happy given this is my first ARCA race.” Townley continued. “This is a place that you have to give and take in order to be successful and I feel we did just that. I was also able to use this race as a way to not only learn Superspeedway racing, but to take in everything I experienced on and off the track and apply to future races.”

The ARCA RE/MAX Series will take a month and a half off before heading to Salem Speedway for the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers 200 by Federated Auto Parts Sunday, April 13th.
