Fast & Fun Facts:

  • Rookie crew chief, Ben Gable led Scott Riggs and the No. 09 Ford Fusion to their best series finish of 15th in just his first race atop the pit box at Daytona.
  • Biggest Mover: Scott Riggs has one win at Auto Club Speedway starting 43rd in his very first NNS race at the 2-mile oval.

Riggs Rallies for Repeat Breakthrough at Fontana:
Everything is on the line for Scott Riggs and RAB Racing at Auto Club Speedway. The sophomore team is without a full-time sponsor and is only scheduled to run through the Stater Bros. 300 this weekend. However, with the stellar performance at Daytona and the experience of a veteran driver behind the wheel the team is on the right track for success. Riggs, a 2002 winner at Auto Club brought home RAB Racing’s best finish in 32 starts last weekend at Daytona and with 15 starts at the 2-mile D-shaped oval Riggs hopes to build on that momentum this weekend.

Scott Riggs at Fontana: Riggs has 15 starts at the 2-mile D-shaped oval in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, NASCAR Nationwide Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. The Bahama, NC native has one pole, one win, one top-10 finish, three top-20 finishes and has led 66 laps.

RAB Racing at Fontana: In two NASCAR Nationwide Series starts at Auto Club Speedway, RAB Racing has one top-20 finish; 17th (October, 2009).

In the Garage: Brett Sumpter, RAB Racing’s mechanic and rear tire carrier is a “Golden State” native. Sumpter was born and raised in Monterrey, CA, but currently resides in Mooresville, NC.

Points Check: Following a 15th place finish at Daytona International Speedway, the No. 09 Ford Fusion owned by Robby Benton currently sits 15th in the 2010 owner point standings. This is the highest point’s position the sophomore team has held since its inception in September 2008.

This Week’s No. 09 Ford: Scott Riggs will pilot chassis No. 037 from the RAB Racing stables in race No. 2 of the 2010 NASCAR Nationwide Series schedule. This chassis was built new for the 2009 season and was last seen at Lowe’s Motor Speedway where John Wes Townley piloted the machine to a 28th place finish.

    Quoting Scott Riggs:
“I’m really looking forward to this weekend at Auto Club Speedway. I can still remember starting my first NNS race there from the 43rd position and winning. California Speedway is a wide, fast track that makes for a lot of good racing. Unlike Daytona, Fontana is a down force track and very driver dependent. I can’t wait to get out there and show everyone what this team is made of.”
