Japanese Automakers Struggle to Resume Production

VOA Breaking News (Voice of America)
March 22, 2011

Japanese automakers are struggling to resume production after the March 11 earthquake and tsunami, troubled by power shortages and a lack of parts.

Honda had planned to restart production at its automobile and motorcycle factories on Wednesday, but the company said Tuesday it would delay operations until at least Sunday.

Toyota also said Tuesday it would continue to keep its plants idle, but did not say when production may begin again.

Nissan has said it can resume activities at five factories this week.
