Formel 1 führt KO-Qualifikation ein

London (Großbritannien), 25.10.2005 - In der Formel 1 gibt es bereits ab der nächsten Saison eine große sportliche Regeländerung: Das bisherige Einzelzeitfahren in der Qualifikation wird durch ein KO-System abgelöst. Ab Samstagmittag, zu Beginn der Sitzung, fahren künftig alle 20 Autos 15 Minuten lang eine freie Qualifikation. Danach scheiden die fünf langsamsten Autos aus, nach 30 Minuten scheiden erneut die fünf langsamsten Autos aus. Die zehn verbliebenen Fahrzeuge fahren dann 20 Minuten lang um die Pole-Position.

Nach jeder Ausscheidungsrunde werden die bisherigen Zeiten gestrichen. Das garantiert Spannung auf der Strecke, auch wenn es beginnen sollte zu regnen. Diese Entscheidung muss am Mittwoch noch in Rom vom Weltmotorsportrat verabschiedet werden. Hierbei handelt es sich allerdings um eine reine Formalität. Dass die KO-Qualifikation eingeführt wird, ist nahezu sicher.
