Truck Driver Leasing and Staffing - What You Need to Know

Many trucking companies around the world have sufficient staff to handle the average, day to day business. However, when a special project comes around and they find themselves needing extra personnel to handle the extra amount of work, these companies find that truck driver leasing is the best way to fill the need.

Truck driver leasing is almost like renting a truck driver for a specific project. The way it works is that a trucking company will evaluate their needs to determine how many truck drivers are needed and for what period of time. These companies will take their request to a staffing agency to see if there are any truck drivers available.

The staffing agency would either supply the drivers directly through their company, or would provide the company with a way to hire sufficient drivers. While it does happen that commercial drivers can be hired directly by a company needing to find truck drivers, the majority of the time the truck drivers are hired by the staffing agency.

The staffing agency is paid a certain amount of money for providing the truck drivers, and the wages for the truck drivers are taken out of that amount. This benefits both the staffing agency and the truck driver. The truck driver is happy because he has work, and the staffing agency receives a commission because they provided the staff.

Any business that has a large amount of fleet tracking, shipping or trucking to do may find that they will come to need to lease truck drivers. Truck driver staffing is perfect for any company that has more trucking needs than they have available personnel. Truck driver leasing is especially perfect for a company that has a short term increase in the demand for trucking, but who don't feel it is necessary to hire more truck drivers on a long term basis.

Working in this way is excellent for most companies, as they only retain the services of the staffing agency and the truck driver for a short period of time. There is no contractual obligation beyond the agreed terms of the lease, and once the period of the lease has expired, there is no need for the company to continue to pay the truck driver.

Many truck drivers have found this arrangement preferable to full time work. For example, a number of truck drivers have retired, but still like to pick up occasional work to allow them to support themselves. These retired truckers can simply work with a staffing agency that will provide them temporary or short term jobs, but they will not be forced to work full time.

Some staffing agencies even provide benefits for their employees, many of the same benefits provided to truckers that are working full time. This includes a retirement plan, insurance, and even vacation pay. Truck driver leasing has become increasingly popular in recent years, thanks to the simplicity and flexibility of the agreement. Many companies are taking advantage of the services offered by staffing agencies to lease truck driver to fill their short term needs, and many truck drivers are taking advantage of the part time work offered by staffing agencies to enjoy their lives while still supporting themselves.
