A few years back a friend and I loaded ourselves into his car to spend a weekend up-state at our high school friend's place. We were excited to take in a new town for a few days and simply get away from it all. We hoped to return and regal our friends with tales of our exploits in Any-town, USA. Instead we got into a car destroying but luckily injury free accident. This friend of mine had essentially saved mine and his lives when a driver ahead of us fell asleep at the wheel. His quick reaction time was not enough to save his wheels (or keep me from dumping 24 ounces of piping hot coffee all over myself) but it did save us. For that I am forever grateful.

My friend had driven the used car we were in for three years and he loved it. He put a CD player in it and made the most out of what a lot of folks would have called a piece of junk. He was dismayed about the state of his car and was not sure what his next step was to be.

The next day when I called to check in on him he seemed genuinely chipper. This was a huge and surprising turn around for my friend who the previous night had been dour about his prospects and thinking about having to travel on the dreaded bus. Apparently his father had suggested they might work together to lease a car. He explained car leasing to me as being surprisingly inexpensive. He settled on a new car fairly quickly, being a quick study and knowing full well what he hoped to be driving -while also acknowledging that he had to commute back and forth to work as soon as possible. I never knew what a huge advantage car leasing gave folks like my friend. I was happy to see such a safe and effective driver back on the road. I was happy to go back to hitching rides as well.
