An infrastructure research company that traces its roots back to a consulting company founded in 1914 as Harrington, Howard & Ash. The letters HNTB are for Howard, Needles, Tammen & Bergendoff, the name the company used in 1941 for its founders Ernest Emmanuel Howard, Enoch Needles, Henry C. Tammen, and Ruben Bergendoff. In 1993 they reorganized from a partnership to a corporation and became HNTB Corporation.
