Hyundai Sedan Club

Hyundai Sedan Club
Online Group

A now-closed Yahoo! Group.  Founded by Bill Crittenden on November 5, 2001.  The club was closed in December of 2006.  The final member count was 71.

The club's subtitle was, "Fans and owners of Sonata/XG-Series/Equus."

The club's description, at the time of closing, was: Hyundai broke new ground in 2000 with the XG300, making it their first luxury car release in the U.S. I created a club for it (XG300 Enthusiast, with 31 members), but Hyundai followed up with word of the Equus' possible U.S. release, the renaming of the XG300 to the XG350, and the very impressive redesigned Sonata, so I created a new club to appeal to owners and fans of all these exceptional cars. Now with the release of the Azera we hope to have new members in our little corner of the web.

Message:  I'm a new member here. I am madly in love with the new Sonata. I am actually planning on being an owner of one very shortly. Actually, as soon as the dealerships in my area get them back in stock. My wish is to have a Ruby Red Sonata LX with just the sunroof package. I don't have a need for the ABS or the TCS. The first thing I plan on doing is tinting the windows and then I will work on some nice 17 or 18" rims. I will also be working on a system in it.

Message:  I was wondering if anybody has had any experience with reprogramming the car (probably something in the ECU) so that when I press the unlock button on the key fob, only the driver's door unlocks. BTW, it is a 2001 XG300. Thanks in advance! Dealerships have given me mixed stories, so I figure I might try to find someone who has a laptop and the approproate software.

Message:  I doubt though that you will be able to set up the keyless like that. Hyundai does not use a BCM (body control module) like some other companies do. A BCM is basically a ECU that controls all the electrical componets that does not have do with the car actually running; i.e. door locks, dome light supervision, door pins etc. Usually only way to make the keyless or any keyless to do that is if there is a TRUE BCM present. I will ask my alarm supplier if they have had any one do this and I will pass on the info.

Message:  Hi There,

Anyone notice their Driver's seat squeaking/creaking on the 2002 LX Sonata (Leather interior)? Mine must have some metal that is rubbing against metal and causing a squeaking or creaking sound as I shift my weight in the seat.

Any help would be appreciated!

Message:  Hi everyone! I'm the proud owner of a 2000 Sonata GLS V6 and I am in the process of upgrading the speakers. I already bought the replacements that are the exact same size and was thinking about trying to install them myself. I hear though that Hyundai's set-up is much more complicated than other cars, i.e. Honda, Toyota. I've searched endlessly online for some instructions but can't find any? Any advice?

Message:  Hey everyone! I just got a new 02' Elantra (replaced my 00 Sonata). It seems like the headlights provide a very poor stream of light. If I use replacement bulbs higher than 55w, will it hurt my wireing? Is there a maximum wattage that's legal? I'm trying to acomplish better lighting and the bluish / xeion look. Any feedback would be appreciated! Thanks!

Message:  Hi there,

I have the xenon bulbs in my sonata, I use the 55W ones and never had any trouble at all. I have been warned though that some types of xenon may heat up enough to melt your headlight housing around the hole where the bulb sits. But as far as I can tell you the 55W bulbs never harmed my headlight housing in the last 2 years. I think it may be the higher wattages that may cause the damage. It only stands to reason...a 100W bulb in your living room lamp will produce alot more heat than a 40W bulb...

If you never had xenon headlight bulbs before, trust me its the greatest thing you can do for your car....I can light up signs on the road hundreds of feet away, long before everyone elses lights do...

The only thing I dont like about them...is the fact they dont have a very long life span, about 6mths or less for me...also with the 55W xenon dont bother putting them in your daytime running lights, you wont see a difference, they will still look yellow. The only place you will see a difference is when you have them in your headlights. On my Sonata there are two bulbs in each housing, one is my headlights and one is my daytime running lights, I only put them in the headlight side and leave the regular bulbs in my running lights. Of course I drive with my headlights on all the time, even in the daytime because it looks cool.

I hope this helps you.....

Message:  I have visited 5 dealers in the northern suburbs of Chicago and NONE can answer a simple question. WHat is the trailer towing capacity of this car?

I like the car, but need to tow up to 1500 pounds, trailer and load.

Message:  On the websites where there was tow capacities, the XG was listed "N/R". Autosite.com was the same. Autosite lists the Sonata tow capacity at 1000lbs standard & 2000lbs max. The XG should be similiar, probably a bit more, since the XG has a bigger engine.

Maybe you should give us a little bit of time before giving up.

Message:  Your point is well taken, but I am very disappointed with the dealer support. It appears that the 2000# figure is based upon having a trailer with electric brakes. If you have an XG series car, can you go check your owner's manual. None of the dealers around here have any idea.

Message:  I hear you. They didn't figure on such a scenario. I have a 2002 Sonata LX, with the V6. I'll look at my book to see specifics on brake-assist.

I have a travel trailer, which I tow with a 2000 Ford Excursion V10. I live in Calif, and if I remember right, state law says you need brake assists on trailers over 3000lbs. I think if you keep it safe and slow, you wont have any problems to 2000lbs (but don't quote me).

Message:  Hi there,

Sorry it took me soo long to respond to your question I just now found it in the flood of emails. I personally use Eurolite Xenon 55W bulbs, my '02 Sonata takes H7 bulbs. I get them locally, they are about $30-40.00cdn here. Just lookup Eurolite Xenon on the net it should take you to hundreds of places where you could get them....I myself if buying online would stick to the more well known places. Try J.C. Whitney, or some of the better known import tuner shops online.

Hope this helps...

Subject:  2002 XG350 for $12500 -- Good deal?
Message:  Hello everyone,
just joined as a new member today after making a deal with a private buyer to buy a 2002 XG350 for $12500. It's got 17700 miles, looks and drives excellent and the owner decided to put in a set of 4 brand new Michelin tires to clinch the sale.

Carfax reports no problems and the buyer's reason for selling was believable, a family man who inherited two other vehicles recently.

I read lots of reviews regarding this model and it was 90% positive. I was wondering if you guys think this was a good deal considering the drastic depreciation from the original 2002 MSRP,

Subject:  CD stuck in player
Message:  Hi all. Just joined the group. Hope somebody can help with a problem I am having.

Today I bought my wife a used 2000 Sonata GLS V6. It is equipped with a CD Player (H920). I tried to insert a CD but the player would not automatically feed in the CD. I pressed the CD button and eject button. Nothing. So, I pushed in the CD with my finger. The on screen display indicated it was loading CD 1 then I get the error message Er2. I looked up the error message in the manual. "It states: CD deck mechanical error (eject error, loading error). After resetting the audio, push the eject button. If disc is not ejected, consult your Hyundai dealer." So, I called the dealer and asked how to remove the CD. He said to bring it in because they would have to remove the entire radio and have it sent to remove the stuck CD. Surely there is an easy way to remove the CD. Does anyone have a clue as to how to get this CD out without removing the radio?

Looking forward to some technical assistance.

Thanks

Well, it's been a long, long time. After getting a new e-mail address and moving and changing a lot of stuff around, I lost the password to accentgt97. It bothered me for a while, not being able to do anything on the groups.

I finally found it again! Which means I'm back. Wow, I almost forgot about the groups I started so long ago. I went off and started a few websites. One website I started a few days ago is about cars, www.carsandracingstuff.com

I also changed group ownership so that my current e-mail address will be the group owner.

I'm gonna let the groups go on anyway, but if anyone wants to join the forum at Cars and Racing Stuff, I'll be there.
