John Marcum founded the Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) in 1953.

He was a former race car driver, who raced against Bill France, Sr. in the 1940's and later worked for him as a NASCAR official.

Known as "Silver Dollar Man" for carrying and giving out silver dollars.
