New Registered Importer Fees
On August 4, 2006, NHTSA published (at 71 Fed. Reg. 43985) a final rule adjusting the fees in 49 CFR Part 594 relating to the activities of Registered Importers (RIs). The new fees will apply for the next two fiscal years, from October 1, 2006 through September 30, 2008.
NHTSA is required by statute to make appropriate adjustments in these fees at least every two years and to establish the fees before the beginning of the fiscal year in which they will apply. The fees were last adjusted through a final rule published in 2004. Those fees have been in effect for the past two fiscal years.
