Even though demand has fallen nearly two percent since last year, gasoline prices continued to break records across the United States this week. And the U.S. Oil Price Information Service warns that prices will go higher as the peak driving season approaches. U.S. lawmakers are busy looking for solutions, but some fear it may be too little, too late to help some Americans. VOA's Mil Arcega reports.

US Library Goes Mobile with Bookmobile

This is National Library Week in the U. S. (April 13 - 19). First celebrated more than half a century ago, this annual observance is intended to draw attention to the many contributions made by America's libraries and the professionals who staff them. This year's theme is: "Join the Circle of Knowledge at Your Library." VOA's George Dwyer recently visited a library that decided long ago to help people join the "Circle of Knowledge" by taking books out of the library and bringing them to people in their community.

Truckers Protest High Gasoline Prices

Hundreds of truckers gathered in Washington DC on April 28 to protest the high cost of fuel. The truckers say Washington lawmakers have been far too silent on an issue that has grave repercussions for the U.S. economy. They called on Congress to stop subsidizing big oil companies and demanded a cap on the cost of fuel. VOA's Mil Arcega reports.

New Technology Prevents Cell Phone Use While Driving

Almost everybody acknowledges the danger of using a hand-held cell phone while driving, yet over a three-year period in the U.S., 180 people were killed in driving accidents involving cell phones. Students at the Stevens Institute of Technology, in Hoboken, New Jersey, have now developed an app that blocks cell phone use by the driver -- but not by passengers. VOA’s George Putic reports.
