Rookie Driving Excited About Night Racing

SPARTA, Kentucky (May 10, 2007) - - ARCA RE/MAX Series Bryan Silas is hoping another round of testing pays off for his Fast Track Racing (FTR) team on Saturday night. It’s worked twice this season and Silas hopes it will again this weekend.

Intense testing at both USA International Speedway and Salem Speedway awarded the team with 10th and eighth place finishes respectively. Now Silas looks to a speedway event where his FTR has put a lot of time and effort into their race package to bring Silas back to the front and in contention for his first top-five finish.

Silas will head to Kentucky on the heels of a test session in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series (NCTS) at Lowes Motor Speedway on Thursday where Silas gained more laps behind the wheel of his No. 71 Chevrolet Silverado also fielded by FTR.

No doubt the rhythm of being in a racecar helps keep the Stuart, Florida native focused heading into the seventh race of the 2007 ARS season.

“I’m glad to be in Kentucky and I’m glad we have another ARCA race this weekend,” said Silas. “I hate not being in a racecar. We’re bringing a good piece to the track this weekend and we should be competitive from practice to the race, I want to put our team back where they belong, upfront.”

While Silas has never started a race at Kentucky Speedway, Silas won’t have too look far for advice. Two time ARCA RE/MAX Series champion Andy Hillenburg will be guiding Silas from the spotting tower maneuvering his rookie around the 1.5-mile track.

“Andy has been great,” explained Silas. “He has taught me so much, I could write a book. I said it last week; we’re ahead of our game. We didn’t expect to be posting top-10 finishes until mid season, we’ve conquered that. Now I think we’re focusing on qualifying near the front and staying there. It’s a realistic goal, practice makes perfect.”

While many consider this track a sister track to Kansas Speedway, Silas doesn’t see the resemblance. “In my eyes Kentucky is nothing like Kansas . I drive both tracks completely different. There is more room to race at Kentucky . It’s night and day for me,” sounded Silas, who enters the event 10th in the championship standings.

Nortrax, Shell Rotella T, Holland Pump and Palm Beach Grading (PBG) will all sponsor the No. 11 Chevrolet in the 14th ARS event held at Kentucky Speedway.

“I’m lucky to be surrounded by great sponsors,” Silas mentioned. “They have stood proudly behind this team all season long and I would like to continue to thank them with a positive run on Saturday night.”

Heading into Winchester, Silas has 12 ARCA RE/MAX Series starts to his credit with a career best finish of eighth at Salem Speedway (April 2007) while holding an additional top-10 performance at USA International Speedway (March 2007). He holds a career best short track time trials effort of eighth at Berlin Raceway (July 2006). A 16th place qualifying effort at Kansas Speedway (April 2007) and Talladega Superspeedway (October 2006) is Silas’s best Superspeedway run to date.

The Buckle-Up Kentucky 150 (100 laps/150 miles) is the seventh of 23 events on the 2007 ARCA RE/MAX Series schedule. The event is a one-day show. Practice begins Saturday, May 12 with a two hour (10:30am-12:00pm Local Time) session planned. ARCA SIM Factory pole qualifying is slated for later in the afternoon at 4:00pm Local Time. The event will take the green flag under the lights beginning at 8:00pm Local Time. The event will not be televised. However, race coverage can be found online at arcaracing.com
