“Bean Fights For Solid Finish Out West”

NEWTON, Iowa (June 4, 2007) - - Dexter Bean was looking forward to Iowa Speedway this past weekend. The sophomore ARCA RE/MAX Series driver walked away with a solid effort after notching an 11th place finish in Saturday’s night Prairie Meadows 250.

Bean started the weekend off in practice hoping to back up his 2006 performance when the Wisconsin native posted the fastest lap. Unfortunately, this year, Bean was eight positions short.

After practicing mid-pack during the first hour of the session, the BlackJack Racing opted to switch gears hoping to find more speed. They did. At the conclusion of the first and only practice session of the weekend, Bean racked in the ninth fastest time.

“We’re still a little tight. We’re going to make more changes for our car and hope it sticks during qualifying,” said Bean.

ARCA SIM Factory pole qualifying was delayed for a half-hour as mother nature rolled in over the Newton , Iowa track following practice drenching the facility.

Bean rolled off 10th in qualifying and maneuvered a lap of 24.531 seconds at 128.409 MPH putting him 17th on the grid. At the time of his qualifying run, it soared the likable driver into the outside pole.

“Our car is setup to run at night, so it doesn’t really matter where we start as long as we can move forward, that’s all I am concerned about,” he said following the run.

At the start of the race, Bean moved up three positions to lock 15th place. He would remain running with the mid-pack for much of the first two quarters of the race.

The first round of pit stops saw Bean bring his No. 6 Five Star Telecom to the attention of his crew where they bolted on four new Hoosier tires, added Sunoco Racing fuel and made a chassis adjustment hoping to allow Bean to turn his car better and press forward through the field.

On the restart, Bean held his ground. Despite not having the fastest car on the track, his car was presentable and fast enough to remain on the lead lap despite a gallant effort by the leaders to erase as much of the field from the lead circuit.

For the last three weeks including Iowa , the BlackJack Racing team fell into some bad luck. While pitting under green, the caution flag flew leaving Bean trapped off the lead lap.

Bean returned to competition, frustrated but devoted to try and return to the lead lap. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to put himself back on the lead lap and settled for a 11th place finish, his seventh straight top-17 finish.

“We just came up a little short tonight. Our car really came to life in the second half of the race. We tried. The good news is the car is one piece and we’re heading to Pocono Raceway next weekend and I’m really looking forward to that event. We may even take this car there. It’s a really good piece.”

With his solid finish Saturday night, Bean maintains fourth in the championship standings trailing Frank Kimmel, Justin Allgaier and Bobby Gerhart respectively.

Next up for the ARS is the first of two trips to the breathtaking Pocono Raceway. The Pocono 200 is set for Saturday, June 9 with live coverage on the SPEED channel beginning at 1:00pm.
