“Stott Classic Racing Endures Another Tough Week”

LONG POND, PA (June 11, 2007) - - Looking to bounce back from a tough week at Iowa Speedway last weekend, ARCA RE/MAX Series rookie Billy Tanner was hoping to bounce back. Unfortunately, contact from another competitor ruined his chances of a good finish in Saturday’s Pocono 200.

After tapping only the 34th fastest lap in practice with a time of 61.380 seconds at 146.628 MPH, Tanner was optimistic heading into qualifying.

With veteran crew chief and owner Corrie Stott calling the shots, Tanner was looking to pick up during ARCA SIM Factory pole qualifying. In time trials, Tanner maneuvered the 2.5-mile track in a time of 59.437 seconds at 151.421 MPH picking up nearly two seconds from his practice effort. He lined up 31st for the start of the 10th ARS event of the season.

“I’ll take that,” said Tanner. “We picked up a whole bunch. Corrie (Stott) said he was going to make some changes that were going to make us better and he did. I’m really happy to be in the show.”

With a long way to go in a short amount of time, Tanner was looking to put his No. 07 CheapCaribbean.com Chevrolet Monte Carlo back into the mix.

At the start of the 80 lap/200 mile event, Tanner settled into the top-25, picking off several cars at the start of the event. Despite learning a tricky track, Tanner was giving 150 percent.

One of his goals into Pocono was coming away strong and clean. Unfortunately, what happened to Tanner next was something he never anticipated for.

On an early restart, Justin South in the No. 59 HD Supply Dodge Charger throttle hung forcing an uncontrollable car into the back of the No. 07 sending Tanner into the outside wall crossing the start-finish line.

Tanner would bring his battered No. 07 Chevrolet to the attention of his Stott Classic Racing team where they would make repairs to send the Newtown , Pennsylvania native back into competition.

With his chances of a top-10 out the window, Tanner would solider on to finish 27th completing 75 of 80 laps.

“Man, we were making progress and just minding our own business and I got plowed. I know that Justin couldn’t do anything about it. I am glad he is okay, but that’s exactly what we were trying to avoid. My guys have worked their butts off the last couple of races. We haven’t had the best races that we wanted, but we’ve been trying.”

Tanner added, “Hopefully we can turn things around. We’ve had two tough races in a row, we need to loose the monkey and put our Stott Classic Racing back into the hunt.”

Next up for the ARCA RE/MAX Series is the ARCA 200 at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn , Michigan . Serving as the first of a triple-header weekend for the Michiganders, the 11th race on the 2007 schedule will take the green flag on Friday, June 15 beginning at 5:00pm with live coverage on SPEED.
