Tanner Returns To ARCA Action In Time For Kentucky

“ Pennsylvania Native Searching For First Top-10 Friday Night”

SPARTA, Kentucky (July 11, 2007) - - ARCA RE/MAX Series (ARS) driver Billy Tanner returns to the series after taking a two race sabbatical to prepare his Stott Classic Racing (SCR) team for Friday’s WLWT Channel 5-150 from Kentucky Speedway.

Tanner, looking to make his sixth career ARCA RE/MAX Series start returns to the site of a track which he has prior experience at. In May, Tanner drove the No. 07 CheapCaribbean.com Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS to a 17th place finish after starting 24th.

In five starts this season, the Sparta , Kentucky based track holds the honors of being the facility that Tanner crowns the site of his career best finish. This time around however, Tanner would like to pick up the pace considerably and garnish his first career top-10 finish.

“I’m glad to be going back racing this week,” said Tanner. “We had to take a couple weeks break to regroup in order to make a huge splash in the second half of our season. The guys have been working really hard in the shop and they are also pumped up about getting back to the track.”

Tanner added, “Kentucky Speedway has probably been my most favorite race of the season, excluding Daytona. We ran real well all weekend. The guys did a good job from practice to qualifying and we picked up several spots during the race, which is what we were after. On Friday, I have a stricter agenda. We’ve proved that we can run and be competitive, it’s time to turn our top-20 finishes into top-10s.”

Sailing into Kentucky , Tanner is in the fifth of 12 races with SCR (Stott Classic Racing) and sponsor CheapCaribbean.com, as the group is using this season as track time to prepare for a full season run in 2008.

“We’ve been able to go to every race and qualify. We’ve raced pretty well, just unfortunately been involved in some entanglements that kept our finishes from showing our true potential. This week at Kentucky will be another strong race. We have to qualify our way in, but I am not worried because Corrie is bringing a great racecar to the track. He has done a great job keeping the team together and really enthused about the upcoming races. Once we qualify, I think we can make the right adjustments and quietly work our way up. We still have a lot to prove and I want to make sure everyone knew we were in Kentucky .”

Crew chief and car owner Corrie Stott has echoed his rookie’s remarks heading into the 13th ARS event held at Kentucky Speedway.

“The team as a whole is really glad to get back to the track. We are racers, we don’t want to be stuck in the shop, but we had to prepare ourselves for what we are expecting to be a strong second half. Billy is continuing to learn each and every time he is climbing behind the wheel of a racecar and I’m really proud of him for that.”

Stott added, “It’s good that we are coming back to a track that Billy has a little more experience at. He knows how to get around the track and can relate to the crew what he is looking for. It also helps the team tremendously that the race is again run at night. We can go by our initial setup from May and tweak based upon how we run on Friday. I just want us to go out there and give everything we have.”

The WLWT Channel 5-150 (100 laps/150 miles) is the 13 of 23 races on the 2007 ARCA RE/MAX Series schedule. The 13th ARCA race held at Kentucky Speedway is a one-day show. Practice begins Friday, July 13 with a two hour and 15 minute (11:30am-1:45pm) session planned. ARCA SIM Factory pole qualifying is set for later in the day at 4:30pm Local Time. The event will take the green flag shortly after 8:00pm Local Time with live coverage on SPEED. Additional race coverage can be found online at arcaracing.com
