ISCARS Racing…No April Fool’s Joke!

Jake and Justin Hobgood had a lot of fun April Fool’s day at Hickory Motor Speedway. It was the season opener for the ISCARS Series and it was no April fool’s joke with a good crowd on hand cheering the 15 car field to the starting line. The ISCARS Spring Kick Off. “150” began with Danny Bagwell heading up the charge by capturing the pole with a time of 15.713. Johnny Chapman was outside pole with Jake and Justin filling up the second row with times of 15.833 (Jake) and 15.852 (Justin).

The race got underway and by lap 2 Justin had his #5 Pontiac in 2nd place! Yeah, you heard me right…it’s #5…not #65. (Justin was #5 years ago when he first began to race and later climbing into his Dad’s car, he took on #65. He has since decided to go back to his original number.) On lap 4, Jake challenged Bagwell and took the 3rd spot since Chapman was now the leader with Justin in 2nd.

The first caution was called on lap 19 and our guys had held their 2nd and 3rd positions steady. The next 40 laps revealed our boys to be in trouble though as they lost ground to several cars. A mandatory pit is called on lap 79 for all cars. The 10 minute stop showed a tire going down on Justin’s car and both cars get needed adjustments. They restart 3rd (#64) and 4th (#5) but still find themselves unable to advance even with the adjustments. Another spot is lost before the night ends placing them 4th(#65) and 5th(#5) until lap 149 when Justin makes a white-flag pass on Jake to reverse their positions.

Next race will be Friday, June 23rd at the Music City Motorplex in Nashville, Tn.
