DAYTONA BEACH, FL - ISCARS DASH Touring, Sanctioned by the American Speed Association (ASA) is scheduled for two feature events at Hickory Motor Speedway on Saturday, July 3rd. Also featured will be the Legends and East Coast Flat Heads.
Two-time ISCARS Champion Danny Bagwell (Cordova, AL) swept both races at Hickory in May and has won four out of five races in 2010, though his last win didn’t come easy.
The series’ last event was at Dillon Motor Speedway on June 19th. It seems that the hotter the weather the more the teams fight to adjust their set ups. ISCARS DASH Touring held consecutive events at Dillon yet saw quite a difference in handling from May to June. This made for an exciting and competitive event, with everyone chasing to make the right adjustments.
Joey Jones (Fredericksburg, VA) is hot on Bagwell’s trail this season. Even Bagwell commented on how much tougher it has been with the other teams catching up to him on handling. Jones’ seemed to land on a good set up for the first feature at Dillon and was able to race Bagwell hard for the his third career win.
Other hot shoes are Eric Gerchak and Rookie contender Todd Hawkes. Gerchak was the 2009 Rookie of the Year and has one career win under his belt. From the way he drove in the last two races, he is showing serious determination to get back into victory lane.
Hawkes showed up at the first race of the season with a car purchased from the 2009 ISCARS DASH Touring Championship Team. He quickly refitted the car with the new ISCARS by FNO Sport Compact body and switched the car to a Ford power plant. The other competitors figure the seat time he is gaining will soon produce a win for his Virginia Tech sponsored car.
Another racer lurking in the field is the Honda Accord everyone has been talking about. Robert Tighe III (known as RT3) is making strides in working out the bugs of the first ever fuel-injected four cylinder to compete in the “DASH” Series. RT3 was very much in the running at Dillon until his car was damaged in a first lap altercation when Joey Jones spun his tires on the re-start and fish tailed in front of the field, blocking the route Tighe had chosen.
So, the stage is set for two ISCARS feature races at Hickory. Racing action begins at 4 pm and will conclude in time for fans to watch the telecast of the NASCAR Sprint Cup race from Daytona.
