The construction of the Stone Brothers Racing built IRWIN Racing Ford Falcon FG is on schedule for debut testing on March 11 at Queensland Raceway.
IRWIN Industrial Tools and driver Alex Davison was announced on January 6 as the new additions to the Stone Brothers Racing line-up. Now the third star of the show, the all-new Falcon is just weeks away from completion.
The Gold Coast-based team has released a ‘sneak peak’ of the IRWIN Racing livery. The full paint scheme will be unveiled on the racecar when it is completed in February.
Headed by Jimmy and Ross Stone, the construction of the IRWIN Racing Ford, along with the sister FG Falcon entry from SP-Tools Racing, has kept everyone busy since the Christmas break.
“The majority of the team had three weeks away from the workshop and they have all returned energised for the 2009 campaign,” said Ross Stone.
“We have been planning for the FG Falcon for around two years and everything is running to schedule for the first test on March 11.
“We plan to have the cars completed well ahead of that test to make sure we start the season strongly.
“As you can see from the image we have released the IRWIN Racing Falcon will be a striking car on the track. I’m sure once the actual FG Falcon is completed and the full livery is on the car everyone will be pleased with the fresh new look.”
Driver Alex Davison has been busy preparing for the season, including packing all his belongings in Melbourne as he relocates to the Gold Coast to be close to the Stone Brothers Racing operation.
“I prefer to be close to the team base, so we are making the move from Melbourne to the Gold Coast,” said Davison.
“I have had little time at the Stone Brothers Racing workshop, but have sat in the car during its construction which was very exciting.
“Like everyone I’m very keen to see it finished and in the IRWIN Racing colours.
“I know that first test will come around very quickly and we have a lot of boxes to tick ahead of that day. Importantly, the level of commitment that has gone into the car’s design and construction is second to none and we will be ready to go!”
The official V8 Supercar test on March 11 at Queensland Raceway is open to the public with those keen to see the IRWIN Racing FG Ford Falcon asked to make a gold coin donation for charity on entry.
The opening round of the 2009 V8 Supercar Championship Series will be the Clipsal 500 on the streets of Adelaide on 19-22 March.
