ALEX DAVISON - DRIVER DIARY, SBR ROAD TRIP DAY 3
Alex Davison/Stone Brothers Racing
July 6, 2009
This morning we got to sleep in for the first time since the trip started. We got up around 8:30 and all had breakfast at the hotel. We headed to Woodman’s Mitre 10 to do an appearance and they had a great turn out and some FPV vehicles on display from the local Ford Dealer. The IRWIN car was on display once again, the SBR transporters tailgate has been working hard on the trip so far!
Each day I’ve spoken with numerous radio stations and it seems that all the surrounding areas of Townsville are really excited about the event. There has been plenty of coverage on both TV and in the papers hyping the race.
Once we had finished at the appearance we drove back into town (Mackay) to have some lunch and stopped in at a bar and grill. Afterwards we drove to the Proserpine Airport to drop Shane off. He had a 6:15pm flight home to drive his new FG at QLD Raceway for tomorrow’s ‘shakedown’ test. We pick him up tomorrow night so he can continue on the trip to Townsville with us.
We head out on a sixty foot boat tomorrow to check out Whitehaven beach so Shane really lucked out there! He maintained he didn’t care but Anna made a point of showing him some nice postcards of where we were headed at the airport before we departed ways just to rub it in.
We left Proserpine and headed straight to Airlie Beach. Throughout the drive from Mackay all you see is sugarcane so it’s refreshing when you drive around the bend and see Shute Harbour and all the islands. It’s my first time to Airlie Beach and it seems to be a pretty cool laidback little town. I have heard that it has a good night life here so we all headed into the main part of town to check it out and have dinner.
Tomorrow should give Scotty the chance to capture some great photos, the weather so far has been perfect so hopefully that continues!
We miss you Shane!
