IRWIN RACING'S ALEX DAVISON TO TAKE SOCCER SUPERSTAR FOR THE RIDE OF HIS LIFE

Stone Brothers Racing
July 9, 2009

IRWIN Racing's Alex Davison has presented North Queensland Fury soccer star Robbie Fowler with his own unique racing helmet ahead of a hot lap tomorrow afternoon on the all-new Reid Park street circuit in Townsville. The English legend takes the passenger's seat in the IRWIN Racing Falcon with a helmet design based on a football with the club's logos. After the lap, the helmet will be signed by Fowler and Davison before being auctioned for charity.

The helmet was painted by Raceart, the same company that supplies Davison with his customised painted Arai helmet.

The V8 Supercar Championship Series makes its first start in Townsville this weekend with 100,000 people expected to attend the Dunlop 400. Davison comes into the weekend confident after a second-place finish at the previous race in Darwin.

The North Queensland Fury are in their final weeks of preparation ahead of their A-league debut against Sydney FC on 8 August.

It will be the first time that Fowler has been aboard a racecar. The opportunity to ride alongside IRWIN Racing's Alex Davison at speeds in excess of 250 km/h is something he is looking forward to. Likewise, Davison is excited that one of the world's most recognisable soccer players will be sitting next to him.

WHAT ALEX DAVISON HAD TO SAY:

"For sure it is a thrill to have Robbie in the car. We wanted to make him feel at home so we got the special helmet done; which has turned out great. Taking top athletes for a lap is always fun. For Robbie it will be something that I'm sure he will really enjoy."

WHAT ROBBIE FOWLER HAD TO SAY:

"I can't wait. Ever since they told me that I was going for a ride I have been looking forward to it. The speed these fellows go I will probably be a little bit scared. The speed is something that that I'm not used to, but these guys do it for a living and Alex has been doing it for a number of years. So I know that I will be in good hands."
