SBR FINISH 2009 SEASON STRONG IN SYDNEY

Stone Brothers Racing
December 6, 2009

Stone Brothers Racing had a great day on track today in the final race of the 2009 V8 Supercars season with both FG Falcons finishing the 250km race inside the top ten at the Sydney Telstra 500. Twenty year old Shane van Gisbergen was the comeback kid of the 74 lap chase after an average qualifying result, a drive through penalty and going down a lap in the race, the kiwi youngster made an unbelievable recovery to finish in 6th position.

Teammate Alex Davison also finished the year in good form crossing the line in 9th.

Shane van Gisbergen – Driver, SP Tools Racing Car #9

“I had a bit of an incident at the start of the race with Steven Richards, and we were penalised for it which I don’t feel was right. He just simply ran me off the road when I was outside him and there was nothing I could do.

“We made a bit of a mistake on our pit call and went down a lap and lost a bit of time there, but we got it back when the leaders pitted and we got a few lucky safety cars thrown in there as well and suddenly we were back in it. To finish 6th was a great effort by the whole team, it was an awesome recovery considering what happened in the race.

“There have been plenty of ups and downs this year but as a group we are really gelling together, it’s a great team. Yesterday was a classic example we had all the potential in the race but we just got caught up in other peoples mistakes so next year we will just keep our heads down, keep it smooth and the results will come.”

Alex Davison – Driver, IRWIN Racing Car #4

“It was a really good performance today, the changes we made to the car really worked and we had great pace and passed heaps of cars.

“I made a mistake after the restart and just went wide and ended up on the marbles and hit the wall. It was very frustrating. I managed to get back on track and into the top ten which was great. I was pretty disappointed with myself after that but the team did great to finish the day with both cars strong.

“Today is my last race of my first full season in V8 Supercars so it’s encouraging to finish the year like this. I can’t wait for next season, there won’t be any time off I’ll be training to be fit for Clipsal!”

Over 180,000 race fans turned out to watch the V8 Supercars in action at Sydney Olympic Park over the weekend. The V8 Supercar fraternity will now enjoy the Christmas break returning to race in 2010 at the first season event in Abu Dhabi.
