SBR QUICKEST AT PRE-SEASON TEST
Stone Brothers Racing
February 10, 2010
Stone Brothers Racing have completed their first test day in 2010 after all three FG V8 Supercars spent yesterday [Tuesday] on track at QLD Raceway in preparation for the upcoming season opener in the Middle East. Alex Davison, Shane van Gisbergen and Tim Slade joined the fellow Queensland based teams for a full days running as part of the official V8 Supercar preseason test.
Although the day was disrupted with scattered showers it was van Gisbergen in the #9 SP Tools Racing Falcon that took out the days honours by claiming the fastest lap and breaking the lap record in the process.
“We ran through all the motions during the day and got a car balance that we are pretty happy with”, said van Gisbergen.
“It started raining so we changed some stuff and had a play around and then in the afternoon we put on a new set of tyres like most the others did and we were straight to the top.
“It’s always nice to be quickest but you don’t get any trophies for a test day, we are holding out for the first race at Abu Dhabi and that’s where it all matters.”
IRWIN Racing’s Alex Davison completed 129 laps over the day and set the seventh quickest time.
"We missed a lot of the dry running in the first half of the day with the weather situation. The second half of the day was better and although we would have liked to be closer to the top of the time sheets we certainly learnt a lot”, said Davison.
“It was my first day working with David Stuart as my engineer and that relationship is still evolving. Although we didn't make the best use of the one set of fresh tyres we had, we made some very positive changes at the end of the day which has me really looking forward to the Middle East.”
Tim Slade, who now has his first test day with SBR under his belt, was happy with what the team achieved throughout the day with the new #47 Wilson Security Racing Falcon.
“The test for me was really about coming to grips with the Wilson Security Falcon and building my relationship with the team and Wes, my engineer”, said Slade.
“Throughout the day our pace was good but we probably got a bit lost with the tyres because we had no history of them when the racing license was transferred.
“At the end of the test the numbers on the board probably weren’t what we would have liked but the car didn’t miss a beat all day and it was encouraging to see my teammate set the fastest time.”
The Stone Brothers Racing team now has four days to pack for the flight direct to Abu Dhabi with cars then set to hit the track on Thursday 18 February at the Yas Marina circuit.
