Getting a fast shiny vehicle is something plenty of guys dream about. For some, it's that extra attention that helps getting through a midlife crisis. For others, it's a statement that you are independent and financially successful. Regardless of your reasons for thinking about getting one of these expensive toys, make sure you know what you are getting into. Here we'll explore some of the pros and cons of spending that cash on that car.
Sure, they will attract attention. That's the main reason people buy them. They look cool, they drive fast, and they make you feel very powerful. There's absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to feel powerful. If you can afford it, and you don't mind the extra headaches and insurance that comes with it, then by all means. However, some people get these and then later regret it.
You won't always be able to drive it, especially if it's a two-seater. There are those times when you've got to drive somewhere with your buddies, be it a ball game or a road trip to Vegas. If all you've got is a ride that carries you and a friend, pretty soon your buddies will realize you'll never be able to fully carry your share of the load. You can pitch in for gas money all you want, but it will never take the place of being the driver, especially if there's ever alcohol involved.
For those of you that are family men, these can be fun, but they aren't useful. They can make you feel good on the weekend, when you've got a few extra hours to kill. These kinds of cars are popular among older males who's children are grown and out of the house. You don't have to worry about driving the kids anywhere, you've got the extra space, and more importantly, you've got the extra money.
This can be a sticking point in a marriage. After all, if you're shelling out forty or fifty grand for a snazzy car, you should expect your other half to get the same pleasure. So when you're thinking of buying one of these, mentally double the price. If you still can afford it without problem, then by all means.
Whatever your decision is, make sure you take plenty of time to make it. As soon as you drive your new car off the lot, it's going to drop considerably in value. As long as you know what you're getting yourself into, you shouldn't have any problems.
